About the event
This is a fairly challenging but rewarding expedition across the stunning Cairngorm plateau. We will take in the 4,000 foot Munros of Braeriach, Sgor an Lochan Uaine (Angels Peak), Cairn Toul, Ben Macdui and Cairngorm. We will also aim to climb The Devils Point, a Munro but not the magical 4,000 feet.. The photo above was taken from the summit on our 2017 trip.
You will need to have a good level of fitness for this walk which is mostly on paths but there are some rough boulder patches to contend with and a significant amount of ascent, some 2,500m across the two days with all of your kit on your back.
Previous experience of camping is not essential as we will spend time coaching you in the art. You will be carrying a rucksack, which may weigh up to 15 kg, as this will contain all your gear for the trip, including shelter, sleeping bag, food and a means to cook it.
We've graded this adventure red because it requires a high level of fitness.
Day 2: Walk from the Sugar Bowl car park, through the Chalamain Gap and across the Lairig Ghru before beginning the ascent of Sron na Lairige on our way to Braerich, the 3rd highest mountain in the UK. Continuing on by the Wells of Dee and up to Angels Peak before crossing to one of my favourite view points, Cairn Toul. We'll then drop down to make camp and dinner before the short detour to The Devils Point. This is a 20km day and may take up to 10hours.
.
Day 2: First we drop down to Corrour Bothy and across the river. Heading north, we will pick up the Clach nan Taillear burn and follow the faint path up steep slopes onto the southern flanks of the UK's 2nd highest mountain, Ben Macdui. Views over Lochan Uaine towards Derry Cairngorm will be appreciated before we turn for the summit. A little way passed the summit we get amazing views of the great corries of Braeriach that we traversed the previous day. High on the plateau now we head for Cairngorm. This is an 18km hike and potentially a 9 hour day.
We will meet in Aviemore for a kit check before heading to the start of our walk and we'll finish with a pint or hot chocolate in the Pine Marten Bar to end our adventure!
