About the event
Join us for a weekend you won't forget exploring the Torridon Giants - Beinn Eighe, Beinn Alligin and (if you want) Liathach.
Beinng Eighe is the biggest of the giants. We'll aim to do this on Saturday - though may switch to Sunday depending on the weather.
The ascent is relentless and there isn't any flat ground before reaching the first summit of Spidean Coire nan Clach. We'll then cross the wide ridge and go out and back to the outlier of Ruadh-stac Mor before the steep and awkward descent to Coire Mhic Fhearchair. We'll pass the stunning triple buttress (pictured) and walk around the lochain before the long walk back to the road. This is one of the best days out in Scotland.Â
Rough Route Stats
Distance: 18km
Ascent: 1150m
Beinn Alligin is a much shorter day but has some added excitement in the "Horns of Alligin". These can be bypassed by a lower path but they're well worth the scramble given good weather. We'll cross the Horns first before ascending to the summit of Sgurr Mor. All the difficulties are behind us now and it's a relatively easy walk to the second summit, Tom na Gruagaich. The views back along to the Horns and over to the other Giants is phenomenal.Â
Rough Route Stats
Distance: 11km
Ascent: 1150m
Liathach is an optional extra on this trip. If you'd like to traverse this iconic and fearsome looking ridge then please add this as an extra ticket when booking. You can choose to do this on either the Friday or Monday. This is by far the most technically challenging of the Giants so you'll be guided with one other person by an experienced Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor (MCI). There is a prolonged section of grade 1/2 scrambling and the route is very exposed.Â
Rough Route Stats
Distance: 9km
Ascent: 1200m
We've graded this adventure as black as these are big mountains with a lot of ascent. Climbing them back to back over one weekend is physically demanding and there are technical sections on each day. The technical challenge is much less if you only join us for Beinn Eighe and Beinn Alligin but that doesn't make it an easy weekend. There are still some hands on sections and you'll be out all day.
