About the event
Ben Alder is an incredible mountain from all angles so the expansive, flat plateau of the summit is a surprise.
We'll meet in Dalwhinnie on Friday before walking the 15km into our camp for the night.Â
On day 2 we'll head for the hills. We'll head to Culra Bothy and climb directly up to Carn Dearg, the first summit of the day. We'll then continue along the highground to Geal Charn, Aonach Beag and Beinn Eibhinn before dropping down to the Bealach between these hills and Ben Alder.
This is where you'll need to dig deep for the climb up to Ben Alder on tired legs. From the top, we'll "hop" over to Beinn Bheoil and return to camp. This is a huge day with around 1700m of ascent over a distance of 28km but is the most efficient way to get around these mountains.Â
On the final day, we'll pack up and walk back out to Dalwhinnie where a cake and coffee calls!
We've graded this expedition as red because day 2 is big! The challenge lies in the distance and ascent but thankfully we'll not be carrying full exped kit for the hard part.
